Realtors knock on doors to find listings
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – July 1, 2013 – Finding a home has become a problem for many would-be buyers in Florida and elsewhere.
Realtors lament that the supply of single-family residences is too low to meet the high demand in many areas. This has prompted some agents to literally knock on doors and ask owners if they have any desire to sell.
Buyer Brian Sommer, for instance, had his heart set on Orlando’s Wedgewood Groves community, where there were just no homes available. To offer the best service possible, Sommer said, his Realtor “spent one afternoon going door to door in this neighborhood and talking to people who lived here to seeing if they were willing to sell [their] home.”
One homeowner ultimately said, “Let’s make a deal.”
The key to success going door-to-door is doing research, studying the market and having compelling data to show potential sellers what is happening in their market. The strategy seems to work best in communities where inventory is low and demand is high.
“When something hits the market, you need to get out there the first day or two so you get a chance to look at it,” RE/MAX agent Brian Mahoney says.
